My grandmother passed away this past Sunday from medical complications. She did not suffer for very long and passed on fairly quickly and easily. I was very close with my grandma and I will always love and remember her and truly appreciate the times I got to spend with her. She has cemented her place in my life and nothing will ever change that.

I will remember for so many things, such as enjoying some fruit, or a glass of orange juice as she always had some ready to serve to me. I’ll remember fond memories of times we spent together when I am watching football on Sundays, or flipping through and catch some golf or tennis on TV I will remember the times I did the same with her. It will make me smile when I see someone drinking caffeine free soda, put some lotion on their hands, or accidentally let out a burp at the dinner table as they will funny reminders of some of my Grandma’s personality. Even when I get out and ride my bike I will be reminded of the times when we used to tear up the bike trails of Sioux Falls together on warm summer days.

She will be missed at our family gatherings while we’re playing Fill-or-Bust, and I will definitely miss enjoying those home cooked pot roast meals and coming over and smelling the meat in the oven already going. I will also miss going to the bathroom and seeing a half finished crossword or word find and enjoy working through one.

There are literally hundreds of reasons for me to remember my time with her and I love her very much. I will always remember the day I graduated college, when she told me how proud of me she was, I will never forget that day. It is really quite unfortunate that she will miss my wedding, but she never held back tell me how much she loved Sara and how proud of me she was that I found such a wonderful woman to love.

I will never ever forget her and every single day I’ll have several reminders of the influences on my life she has had. For that I am extremely blessed and I cannot thank God enough for giving me such a wonderful woman to be apart of my life. I know that she is in a better place right now, I’m just extremely overjoyed that I got so many great times spent with her, and as much as I’ll miss her and selfishly wish she was still around, I can’t help but just feel fortunate of the times we had together, I love you Grandma.

Back in my days at the University of Sioux Falls I knew this girl named Amanda. She was roommates with a couple of other friends I had and I spent a lot of time around them all. Amanda and I were both standing in a wedding for mutual friends we had two years ago and she was always a pretty talent artist.

Now she’s in Boston, married, and started her own cake company called Amanda Oakleaf Cakes. She has put together some pretty impressive creations that I will let you check out for yourself on her website, but if you enjoy the cake making shows on television you will truely be impressed by her cakes.

Anyway on her facebook page she announced she’s giving away a life-sized Storm Trooper cake. This cake she quotes as a cake that would be worth a few thousand dollars will hopefully stand 5′11 on its own. She has a few contest rules and what not, like being from the Boston area to win, but I can think of several different reasons why this party would be kick ass.

Check it out: Amanda Oakleaf Cakes.

Be sure to check out her galleries, she has put together some mighty impressive cakes in the short amount of time she’s be open.

Tuesday of this week it was just short of a huge blizzard here in Sioux Falls. It snowed a lot lets say, I never heard a final total. Anyway the way our townhouse complex is set up the snow drifted that night all around out house, in front of our door, the works. So taking Wyatt out side to do his duty was quite the chore as there was a drift that went up to my knees (well above Wyatt’s head) blocking us in.

Anyway I decided to film our escapade (leaving out the poop part) and it was cold and windy. But Wyatt toughed it out and got it done. Then I made him walk back in over the drift (I carried him out to get him outside). He was slightly hesitant, but he did it anyway.

This Thursday we went out to finally play in the snow for a little bit. So I brought out his blue rubber ball and the video camera again. He really enjoyed fetch out there even though it was slightly challenging to him. The ball really hardened as it got cold making it pretty hard for him to grip. It also hid in the snow pretty well.

Anyway while you’re checking out this cute video check out how Wyatt is walking. I found it pretty funny as he seems to protect his hind legs as much as he can. Its almost if he is tip-toeing around towards the end. We were only out for 5 to 10 minutes so no animals were frozen in this film shooting. Enjoy!

Well being engaged means that eventually I will be getting married some time. Unlike Pam and Roy from the Office, Sara and I set a date within a couple of weeks and we will be getting married in July 2010. Yay!

In the meantime planning a wedding is extremely hard and frustrating, and thank God Sara is here to take the bulk of it on her shoulders. By bulk I mean pretty much all of it, I get to say a few things, and help out in some ways, but I love it that way.

Anyway my fiancee has taken her work and blogged about much of it at her website http://www.ecovintageweddings.com.

Check it out for all things weddings, and even check out the few things about the wedding party, etc.

Last month Weezer released their newest album to the world and so I had to check it out. I have since given it a few plays in my car and on my iTunes. Overall I am very pleased with the album. Rivers Cuomo, the lead singer, has a serious talent for putting together some very catchy tunes while at other times mixing music and lyrics very well.

Weezer - Raditude

My favorite on the song is ‘Can’t Stop Partying’ which features an unlikely partner Lil Wayne from the rap scene. The song is basically an anthem for party goers and I was brought back to my hay days in college. After that ‘(If You’re Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To’ is a great song above falling in loveand dealing with that whole new and sometimes awkward stages of a new relationship. ‘The Girl Got Hot’ is a fun song about a dude who passed up on a girl who eventually got hot.

Those songs are the highlighted singles and rightfully so. However the whole album from start to finish is 35 minutes of great music. The only complaint is that its a very short release which I would guess that after releasing all the music they have, they probably set up a pretty high standard for what to put out, and to add 4-5 extra songs that weren’t very good would have just done more harm that good.

Weezer has a great album on its hands when compared to music in general in my opinion. However if you compare this album to some of their others, and I would leave it out of the top 3 for sure. But its like trying to pick out a favorite top shelf alcohol. They are all great, but some float the boat for different folks.

Here is ‘Can’t Stop Partying’ that Weezer did with Chamillionaire filling in for Weezy. I like live music, even in this setting.

As a human I understand that people make mistakes. There is never to much patience when dealing with other human beings. In a perfect world I’d be king and everyone would listen to me. However that is unrealistic, and I know that everything has some element of give or take to it, and nothing is more compromising than a relationship.

Sara and I live together and have been living together for just about a year now and we have both learned some of the less than finer things about each other, but we have moved on and learned to love each other for who we are as people, not just how sexy we are. Great!

However today I’m putting my foot in the ground and writing because I made a promise that I would. Sara and I have been dividing up the chores fairly evenly for the most part over the time, and while sometimes its an issue for concern, usually any fight over cleaning is just a facade for some other issue.

This morning I looked on the coffee table and I saw Sara’s hot cocoa cup and her kool-aid glass sitting there. While this doesn’t seem like a big deal, it has been a big deal in the past when I have done this in the past.

So I go to inspect these fine dishes being left all alone out of their place and see that the hot cocoa glass is stained with the marks of chocolate and now caked on there. This blows me away as I will quote, “I never leave anything caked on there, rinse all my dishes, every time.” The love of my life, Sara.

In fact I am so bad at it apparently, and she is so good at it, that she won’t do the dishes as she believes the only reason they take so much time is that I never rinse them. I usually counter with a no, absolutely not, I’m not an all star, but I am not alone in creating this mess. So anyway she has been boycotting dishes pretty much for the last two months doing them once or twice, maybe three times (its a daily job here) over that time.

I’m positive this is not the first opportunity I have had since the promise I made to take pictures and blog about her leaving a sticky icky dish around, but this is the first time I thought about writing about it. So here are the pictures, and for those who think its my hot chocolate glass, I can’t drink it as I cannot digest milk.

Inside the mug

Side view, its even spilled on the sides!

I love Sara for everything, and don’t mind at all that she actually let this happen when she said it never happens. But I felt like making a point to not sweat the small stuff, as its really not that big of a deal. Most of the time, even when the small stuff piles up, it only takes a few minutes to sort through it all. That’s why its small. I love you!

I was sick with mono during the shooting of the movie, but the project turned out very well. In the movie you get to find out that Jordan has watched a full episode of Sex and the City, and that Eric has done about everything else. The night ended up being a great time, and the hour of footage we shot that night brought smiles to our faces.

In an attempt to help keep me awake through my overnight shift here at work, I have decided to keep a list of the things I’m doing throughout the night. Track any thoughts, concerns, or actions that may take place over my 9-hour journey.

11:15 pm – I arrived at work on time, and all the kids are sleeping. Staff take off as quickly as they could, and I settle in.
11:20 pm – Read through all the paperwork since my last shift, nothing really all that interesting, same stuff different day.
11:25 pm – Perform a room check. Nothing to see here.
11:27 pm – Begin my own paperwork, then check my mailbox to see if my boss left me with the training DVD’s I requested, she did!
11:30 pm – Dilly Dallying.
11:40 pm – Room Check… All is well.
11:42 pm – Trying to get a read on the staff that is working with me, we haven’t really worked much together before let alone an overnight. Could be good or bad.
11:45 pm – Check phone for first time.
11:53 pm – Went to the bathroom.
12:00 am – Performed a room check, everyone was sleeping again.
12:12 am – Put in staff training video, need some training hours…
12:14 am – Starting “Substance Abuse” training
12:22 am – Decided to apply my education for some training hours, works for me.
12:30 am – Substance abuse video is extremely exciting…… Not! /borat
12:32 am – Check rooms again, seeing them sleep makes me sleepy.
12:35 am – Guh… Why don’t they give me the internet here.
12:38 am – SHHHH… I skipped ahead about 15 minutes through the video.
12:39 am – Checked websites on my phone, nothing is going on. Lame.
12:42 am – Had my first craving for food or drink…. However I’m trying to get as far as I can before I break. Most likely my partner’s chili leftovers is causing my hunger, she offered some, I passed, didn’t look that good. Someone’s parents could be in that. /South Park References
12:43 am – Every time I work an overnight I wonder why I don’t have games on my laptop… Dumb.
12:46 am – My coworker is watching some garbage on TV, Sherlock Holmes trailer plays on commercial, I really want to see this.
12:49 am – Coworker offered Ritz Crackers. They are shaped like snow flakes. Yum.
12:51 am – First training “watched” starting the next one, a full hour long about Children’s emotional needs. My parents had it easy, a video game some starbursts and the internet and I was solid for a week.
12:53 am – Read yesterday’s Cyanide and Happiness cartoon on my phone, its small but readable, and it was a rare funny one by Matt. Nice.
12:56 am – I think its funny when a training instructor asks for an answer and gets a wrong one, then tries to positively pry another guess from another person. One of the best types of awkward situations. I would just rather be told I’m wrong and move on, but they try to be nice thus alienating the person while the rest of the classroom says nothing to avoid being put in the same spot.
This break from your regularly schedule read of Jordan’s long long night is brought to you by adventuresinabottle.com a blog about wines and how good they can be.
12:59 am – I make zero dollars from advertisements, however I feel like they make me more legit.
1:02 am – I rocked some Modern Warfare 2 before I went to work, I wish I was still playing it.
1:03 am – First kid woke up to go to the bathroom. His pants were not all the way pulled up, I got a half moon. Welcome to my job.
1:08 am – Polished off the package of Ritz crackers, hoping my coworker didn’t want any more. I’m a fatty.
1:10 am – 20 minutes into the training video, a random close up on the instructor happens for the first time. Pull it back please.
1:14 am – According to this training video 20% of kids did not know they could get pregnant if they drunk. #parentingfail
1:16 am – Surfing the MLB Trade Rumors forums on my phone, making posts for fun.
1:18 am – People on an internet message board who lack a sense of humor are no fun at all.
1:23 am – My nose is cold.
1:26 am – Beginning to fade here… And I have 7 hours left. Ouch… These trainings need to be done so I can start doing some homework.
1:28 am – Totally skipped again ahead another 10 minutes through the training. I feel like I missed nothing. Oh my God she told a joke, and it got some courtesy laughs.
1:34 am – “Kids now days text on the cell phones when they are in their pockets!” Umm yeah… I rocked that 7 years ago… #youaretooold
1:35 am – Then she transitioned from that shocking development into suicide. Damn.
1:37 am – “Kids are like penguins, they all follow a leader and would jump off a cliff together” …. No comment.
1:38 am – Random thought… I think I slept with Tiger Woods too. Should I go to the police?
1:39 am – Ahhh “penguins are very social, and easily influenced…” Kids = Penguins… Sara wanting a penguin obviously means she wants kids. /*#*(
1:40 am – Training is done, I don’t think I learned anything, I’ll assume that, that was the point.
1:41 am – Two more trainings to watch, Needs of People in Crisis, and Principles and Pratices of Child Care.
1:47 am – Took a quick break, got a Coke Zero and some starburst. Brain food!
1:49 am – Bedroom check, been a while since the last one, these kids sleep funny.
1:51 am – The playstation 3 marketing campaign makes me sad I don’t like mine more than I do. #aplusinmarketing
2:04 am – Started doing a blog for my baseball simulation league the CBU.
3:14 am – I finished writing the blog, I had no idea it would take that long but it was fun to write and I will post it whenever I get home tomorrow. I probably should have been doing some homework, but I don’t honestly trust myself at this point as I can barely complete sentences. Unfortunately my professors hold me to a high standard. Anyway you missed two bedroom checks, one kid waking up to stare at us for about 5 minutes then konk back out, and me getting an upset tummy from the sugar I just poisoned myself with. Back to the up to the minute updates!
3:16 am – So since I can’t study worth a poop (not cartoon poop) lets get back to those pesky work trainings so that I don’t lose my job for not getting enough training hours complete! #peoplefindusbygooglingcartoonpoop
3:21 am – Realized I already have that training, moving along to ‘Needs of People in Crisis’ The teacher started off by saying if you are ever in her building to stop by and say hi. #superlonelyinstructorsatthevoa
3:25 am – We’re about 5 minutes into the video and she has mentioned on several times how she usually has 90 minutes for this course, but hasn’t spent a single second on it yet. “get on with it” /monty python
3:29 am – “How many times have you known at a job that you needed to leave, but you stayed?” Ummmm… I feel that way right now. Is that permission?
3:30 am – Hello? I guess not =(
3:31 am – My nose is extremely cold. Holy crap. I need a nose warmer.
3:32 am – Zuma zooom zoom in the booom boom wayyoohhh!!
3:33 am – My boss is at this video taped training, I’ve seen her peer down at what I can only assume is her cell phone about every 24 seconds so far on average. Unless there’s something incredibly interesting about the table….
3:39 am – Room checks, yeppers.
3:40 am – yes! We got another trainer who got a bad answer, and created yet another awkward situation. /evil meanness
3:42 am – Yawn.
3:44 am – and we’re moving along here…

After that I took a nap, buzzed around the room, checked for monsters under the bed, and then eventually passed out medications to the waking children, ate some breakfast, threw up my breakfast, and then got home to bed! Home sweet home!

Me now: (well in theory)

Sara and I have recently been sitting together and watching through season after season of The Office. I bought the DVD’s on TV on eBay from some Chinese seller by suggestion of Brad. I got all five available seasons for around $50 and it was one of the best deals I’ve ever gotten.

The Office

The show features an office love affair, a boss that just wants to be friends, an idiot savant employee, and all sorts of off beat supporting cast rounding the whole show out. The jokes are all there, the show is well put together and in the weirdest way its believable.

Anyway I wouldn’t call it the best series I have ever seen on TV, but it does round out my top 3. Scrubs is still my go-t0 favorite and the show I can watch over and over again. Behind Scrubs is the show that Scrubs replaced, South Park. South Park was still featured by my favorite episode on TV of all time, with ‘Scott Tennorman Must Die’. However The Office replaced my favorite episode with a season 5 episode where Dwight steals the show.

I don’t want to give the whole thing away, I want you all to go out and watch The Office and enjoy it for what it’s worth. However I will present you with this clip from that episode and the setting is an office meeting where they are teaching the employees CPR. They decide that the CPR dummy is dead, and Dwight takes over. Enjoy.

Last night I watched one of the best and worst football games I have seen in a long time. I enjoy a great players who dominate their sports. I do not however enjoy when those players do not get recognized for their great efforts. Last night Ndumakong Suh the defensive tackle from the University of Nebraska dominated Colt McCoy and the Texas Longhorns.

Suh’s first name is pronounced en-dom-ah-ken and he was really close to Colt McCoy last night. Texas would end up winning on a game winning field goal and did all but solidify Colt McCoy’s Heisman trophy award (best player in college football). However Suh has been a dark-horse candidate for most of the season and is ultimately and underdog (even more reason for me to like him) for being a defensive player. Last night Suh sacked Colt McCoy 4 and a half times. He led Nebraska last night with 11 tackles which he made 7 of them for a loss.

For those who are not terribly familiar with how good this is, 4.5 sacks is a great season for most players. Suh had 4.5 sacks against a Heisman quality QB, against the 2nd best team in the country, on national television. Suh was against a double team of offensive linemen the entire game and made 7 plays in the backfield. This was an incredible performance. Heisman winning quality.

However Nebraska’s offense failed to score any points, mustered just a hair over 100 yards, and lost the game despite Suh’s domination on defense. Thanks to Colt McCoy for the quote of the day saying of Suh’s continual pressure, “Yeah, we became friends.”

Getting hugged and drug to the ground a handful of times will do that to man I guess.
