VT Remembrance

Virginia Tech. One year ago. I remember it like it was yesterday. Surreal. It felt like it was something that was happening in a movie. Is that what makes movies good? According to Hollywood it is. But in reality all it does is numb us to the sick shit that actually happens (excuse my language).
While watching ESPN today (my main [but not only] source of news) I learned that there were lots of anti-gun protests today. Is that right? In my opinion, no. I feel that if it were okay to have guns on campus (via permit), there would have been two, maybe three deaths at Virginia Tech… one of those being the shooter.
I do own a handgun. If it were lawful to bring it to class, I would. Never…NEVER… out of cockiness or showmanship, but out of safety – for both me and my fellow classmates.
On the other hand, if there were stricter gun laws, there still would have been 32 deaths at Virginia Tech. Because guess what… criminals don’t use permits. They get guns regardless of laws and do what they were set out to do.
I am not telling you who to vote for, but both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama plan on banning semi-automatic weapons. Semi-auto? Being from South Dakota, my view is somewhat skewed on this one… I can see why they don’t want them in Detroit or LA. But c’mon. I have been shooting semi-autos since I was 12 (legal in South Dakota).
In cities where violence happen (often), whether a gun is legal or not is the least of the murderer’s worries. If I were going to shoot someone would I think, “Oh shit, throw me the pump-action… the semi-auto is illegal now that we have a woman Prez!”
No. No I would not. Granted, I don’t plan on shooting a human being ever, but seriously… criminals do what they do regardless of laws. That’s like a Congressman saying, “Maybe if we give them DOUBLE life in prison they won’t commit murder!”
People do bad things. They have done them ever since large rocks were the best weapon available. Taking the ‘large rocks’ aka ‘guns’ from the people
who mean no harm is not the solution.
If you have a different opinion/solution please post it. I’d be happy to hear/read it.
Think it makes people think twice to rob a store knowing that the person behind the counter or getting a 20 oz soda has a gun as well? I bet it does.
Well technically that’s legal right now. As long as you have a concealed weapon permit you can carry a handgun a lot of places.
The places you can not are federal buildings, schools, and bars.
Bars is an obvious one… alcohol and guns would turn shit into an old western movie. But a lot of colleges are actually trying to get the law changed so it is legal to carry a gun on campus.
You’d be surprised how many times you’ve been in a gas station with somebody carrying a legal weapon.
you would have to go to class in order to bring a legal gun to to class….haha just pointing that one out
